Donations to AQPA

The Aphasia House Foundation was created primarily to ease the financial burden on AQPA. Based on its annual income, it makes donations in currency that meet the needs of the AQPA members or represent the 3.5% quota required by the Canada Revenue Agency. Below are some significant contributions made possible by the generosity of our administrators or our donors.

40th anniversary of the AQPA: $32,000 in collaboration

The 40th anniversary of the AQPA was enthusiastically celebrated by the AHF, which devoted nearly 700 hours to the event.

 

La présidente, President Guylaine Le Dorze volunteered to give a lecture as part of the Crossword Puzzle on Aphasia meetings, which was posted online and presented to participants. a donné bénévolement une conférence dans le cadre des rencontres Mots croisés autour de l’aphasie qui  fut mise en ligne et présentée devant les participants.

 

Administrator Michelyne Hubert led a group of people with aphasia to identify the slogan of the event at the 40th anniversary preparatory committee and launched the Crossword Puzzle on Aphasia meetings. She also recorded this event and edited the video.

 

Executive Director Louise Bourbonnais designed and produced the show 40 Years of History and Life as Told to the Little Prince Visiting Planet Aphasia, in collaboration with the Théâtre aphasique, the Chœur de l'aphasie, and stage manager Michel Bourgoing. She conducted documentary research and assisted the stage manager in editing the videos. She was also responsible for promoting the 40th anniversary and producing the souvenir program.

Other donations

The AHF obtained free participation in Laval University's design class on the AQPA's branding thanks to a video designed and produced by Louise Bourbonnais and Camille Havas (valued at approximately $500, in addition to deliverables provided free of charge by Laval University estimated at $5,000.

 

Ten tickets to the play MAURICE, presented at the Théâtre d'aujourd'hui valued at $210 were donated to the AQPA for its members.

 

Friendship visits: $8,000

Over the past two years, 17 people have been visited for a total of 220 hours despite the pandemic lockdown. Friendly visits have been an integral part of the services offered by the AQPA since its inception and help alleviate the isolation of people with aphasia. (Photo: Louise Malo)

Transportation assistance: $3,208 + $10,000

For several years now, the AHF has been contributing to the transportation costs of people with aphasia who would otherwise be unable to participate in the AQPA activities. Soundproofing of the Aphasia Choir rehearsal room on the 5th floor of the Monastère Community Service Center: $10,000

Additional fees for the director of the Aphasia Choir (2 years): $10,000

Since April 2021, the AHF has been supplementing the fees of the director of the Aphasia Choir, Ms. Christine Cantin. Emergency fund: $2,832

During the pandemic, the needs of certain AQPA members led to the creation of an emergency fund, which has become indispensable and will be maintained.

Training: $3,000

This amount will pay the fees of a speech therapist who will provide training on aphasia to AQPA volunteers and caregivers.

Food assistance: $6,000

During the 2023 and 2024 holiday seasons, food vouchers were distributed to people with aphasia living alone or in couples, whose income is insufficient to afford... a real celebration!
